Adega de Sabrosa
The Sabrosa cooperative has existed since 1958. The house was founded because (mainly female farmers) received a worse rate for their grapes. To keep the money in the region and to give women in the area a better position, Sabrosa started the cooperative themselves. With this, they officially produce Douro Port, because the port is also made in the region itself. The wines have always been made by a woman. More than 600 farmers supply grapes to the cooperative. However, their production remains limited to the relatively small number of 400,000 bottles per year. They make the wines under the name of the explorer from their village: Fernão de Magalhaes.
