The wines of Casa da Tojeira

The vineyards of Casa da Tojeira are located around the country house, on rolling hills at the edge of Cabeceiras de Basto. The soil consists of granite and sand, typical for the region. Grapes such as Alvarinho, Trajadura, and Loureiro are cultivated here, as well as Chardonnay. The climate is mild, with cool nights that ensure freshness and aromatic precision in the wines. Everything is harvested by hand. The vineyards are relatively high, which benefits the acidity in the grapes.
Gastronomic wines from Northern Portugal
Since 2018, Casa da Tojeira has made a clear choice: less volume, more character. The focus has since been on quality and individuality. This is reflected in their surprising Chardonnay Vinho Verde and the pure Pet Nat from the Loureiro grape. The wines have become fresher, drier, and more gastronomic. No longer a standard Vinho Verde, but wines that can also be served at a good restaurant.
Unique Portuguese Vinho Verdes
"Casa da Tojeira has always been extra special. It is the first winery we ever started with. Back then, it was with their basic wine 'Mafesousa', which was stored in my 15m2 student room. Once in Lisbon as a student, I drank a Portuguese white wine with a fine sparkle. At Prowein 2018, I went looking for that one wine. A few months later, I had it in my glass at home: Vinho Verde. Not only have we undergone development, but Casa da Tojeira with Miguel, Nuno, and Luis have also developed, especially in wine quality. We can only embrace their vision to move away from 'cheap standard Vinho Verdes' and focus on unique Vinho Verdes. The new style wines they have developed, such as the Portuguese white wines with oak aging, the Pet Nat, and even more exciting wines that will be added in the coming years, are unique." - Jasper Smit
