The wines of Château Hostens~Picant

Halfes is a wine importer of French wines from Château Hostens~Picant in Bordeaux. Located in the heart of Sainte Foy Côtes de Bordeaux, Château Hostens~Picant is known for its dedication to craftsmanship and tradition. The winery has a history dating back to the 19th century. Yves (Valentine and Charlotte's father) bought the house and land in 1986 as a country home. He saw potential in the region and the soil and wanted to showcase the new face of Bordeaux. Valentine and Charlotte aim to produce modern, dynamic, and accessible wines. Gastronomic wines with an eye for sustainability led to their success. The vineyards of Château Hostens~Picant cover 42 hectares and benefit from an exceptional terroir. Calcareous clay soils and an ideal climate come together here to create unique wines.
The winery's wines distinguish themselves through their elegance, complexity, and exceptional quality. From the robust red wines, infused with notes of ripe berries and subtle spices, to the elegant and refined white wines. Each bottle offers a unique tasting experience that reflects the distinctive characteristics of this part of Bordeaux.
Organic wine from Sainte Foy Côtes de Bordeaux
The wines of Château Hostens~Picant are unique. Not only do they make a lot (30%) of white Bordeaux wines, but they also use Cabernet Franc instead of Cabernet Sauvignon in their red Bordeaux alongside Merlot. After research, the Picant family discovered that Cabernet Franc performed better on their calcareous clay soils. A large part of their wines hints at father Yves Picant's darlings, his daughters Valentine and Charlotte. They both have a wine named after them, and their pride, the white Bordeaux, is named after both of them: Cuvée des Demoiselles. Sadly, Yves passed away the week before we started importing their wines. An inspirer and a true gourmand, the wine named after him. You can truly call him an inspirer. One of the few French people who spoke accentless English.
“Very rarely do you immediately taste the charm of a wine. On Monday morning, June 5, 2023, I tasted a fantastic glass of wine. Cuvée des Demoiselles 2014. A white Bordeaux, a category of wines I was unfamiliar with. Made from Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon, and Muscadelle. Truly a special glass. My perception of Bordeaux was old-fashioned. This was so refreshing for my mind. A good wine should raise questions, not answer them. That's exactly what happened with this masterful wine. A day later, I was at the Château tasting. Although we always taste our wines blind, I was pretty sure I had to have this.” – Jasper Smit
