The wines of Torre de Palma

Torre de Palma is located in the heart of the Alentejo. It is a Portuguese winery known for its refined wines and rich history. In the north of this extensive region, in Monforte, Torre de Palma combines traditional viticulture with modern techniques. This results in wines that perfectly reflect the unique Alentejo terroir. Thanks to the special microclimate of the Alentejo and the insights of winemaker Duarte de Deus, wines with a unique character are created. The Portuguese wines from Alentejo by Torre de Palma are appreciated both nationally and internationally. In everything Torre de Palma does, Duarte, Jorge, and Luísa aim to excel and stand out. Because of this vision and their fantastic wines, we are happy to collaborate with them.
Torre de Palma Wine Hotel
In addition to wine production, Torre de Palma offers a luxurious experience for visitors who want to explore the Alentejo. The estate houses an architect-designed boutique hotel that combines the rustic charm of the region with modern luxury. Guests can participate in extensive wine tastings. They can also enjoy gourmet dinners in the restaurant and discover the beautiful surroundings of the Alentejo. Portuguese chef Miguel Laffan is at the helm of the restaurant. He cooks dishes that perfectly complement Torre de Palma's sustainable wines. This makes Torre de Palma not only a top destination for wine lovers.
The wines made by Duarte de Deus are unique, bottle by bottle. Torre de Palma has chosen not only to bring their hotel to the highest level, but also their wines. By using traditional talhas (earthenware pots, similar to qvevri in Georgia), they produce perfectly pure quality wines in Alentejo. The winery is one of the founders of WASP, the Wines of Alentejo Sustainability Programme. The Wines of Alentejo Sustainability Programme helps winemakers in Alentejo work more sustainably, with attention to nature and the community. This includes not only the sustainable cultivation of grapes, but also the development of employment opportunities for Portugal's largest (wine) region, which suffers greatly from residents leaving the area.
The history of Torre de Palma
Torre de Palma is a country estate, herdade in Portuguese, that has existed for over 2,000 years. The ruins are located near the house built in 1338 for the royal family of Portugal at the time, the Dinis family. For the Romans, it was a resting place on the road to Lisbon. The tower, which is characteristic of the house, was built to control the lands and their employees. At the time, it was a farm with over 2,000 hectares of land.
From 1974 until 2007, the house was completely dilapidated. The Rebelo family, parents of Luísa, who runs the hotel, bought the heavily dilapidated site and built their dream there. A very good hotel and fantastic winery, where local traditions are held in high regard. They seamlessly combine these traditions with modern techniques to create delicious wines and a magnificent hotel. The hotel was awarded 2 Michelin Keys in 2025.
Organic wines from Alentejo, Portugal
To make their organic Alentejo wines, they hired Duarte de Deus. A renowned winemaker from Alentejo who is familiar with the terroir, grapes, and traditions. He was allowed to design the vineyards and winery according to his vision. This results in a number of unique Portuguese wines from Alentejo. In all their wines, you see references back to their Roman origin. For example, by bringing back the characteristic Roman tiles on the labels of their wine bottles. The grapes are foot-trodden in marble lagares, large vats.
