Winemaker Sina Mertz
Background Sina Mertz (1990) took over her father's winery in 2016. The family has lived in Eckelsheim (Kreis Alzey, Rheinhessen), Germany, for generations. Sina studied oenology at the Hochschule in Neustadt an der Weinstrasse. She did internships in Chile and California (at Kendall-Jackson). The soil in Eckelsheim is unique. Porphyry rock full of fossilized seafood.
Vineyards In the organic vineyards around the village of Eckelsheim, Sina's grapes grow around a mountain of porphyry rock. Her choice to make modern German wines is a credit to her.
