Winemaker Sina Mertz
Background Sina Mertz (1990) took over her father's winery in 2016. The family has lived in Eckelsheim, Germany (Kreis Alzey, Rheinhessen) for generations. Sina studied oenology at the Hochschule in Neustadt an der Weinstrasse. She did internships in Chile and California (with Kendall-Jackson). The soil in Eckelsheim is unique. Porphyry rock full of fossilized seafood.
Vineyards In the organic vineyards around the village of Eckelsheim, Sina's grapes grow around a porphyry mountain. Her choice to make modern German wines is admirable.
Vinification After manual harvesting, the wine ferments in stainless steel tanks with its own yeasts. The wine matures for only a short time; after just over 8 months, the wine is ready to be bottled.
