Halfes is an Amsterdam-based wine importer specialising in Portuguese, French and Greek wines. We collaborate with independent, terroir-driven wineries and focus on building long-term partnerships with both producers and hospitality professionals. Our ambition is to become a leading partner for premium gastronomy in the Netherlands.

Our story

Jasper created in 2018 in his student dorm a company focusing on half bottles (375 ml) of wine. Since 2023, we have focused primarily on the B2B market. Our sales are primarily to restaurants and wine bars (60%), followed by specialized shops (30%), and direct-to-consumer (10%). In 2026, we relaunched our webstore (www.halfes.nl) to support brand visibility and respond to consumer demand. It also serves as a marketing tool for sommeliers and clients.  Our clients range from strong local restaurants to venues listed in Star Wine List and restaurants recognized by Michelin Guide and Gault & Millau. 

Human connection is vital in the wine and hospitality industry. Both with our suppliers

and our clients. We work with B2B-clients across The Netherlands and in the Dutch-speaking part of Belgium. We continue to grow by carefully expanding our portfolio and strengthening our network.

We focus on our B2B clients, our wines and our position as a company. Our goals are:

1.        Halfes is a strong and reliable partner for its wine makers and employees;

2.        Halfes organizes leading events for its clients;

3.        Halfes is the leading wine supplier for Portuguese and French wines;

4.        Halfes supplies 0.1% (~600,000 bottles) of the wines in The Netherlands each

year.

The Dutch Wine Market

We don’t have a monopoly system for alcohol. Number of bottles sold annually in The Netherlands: roughly 600 million to a population of 18 million people. Per capita we drink 26.1 litres of wine per year. Interest in wines has increased the last years, consumers are interested in higher quality and premium wines. Most wines are sold in supermarkets. The average price is €4.12 (2024), including VAT. The VAT rate for wine is 21%, and the import tax is €0.72 for a 750 ml bottle. In regular restaurants the price of a bottle of wine goes x5 in price. 

Wines & partnership

To ensure the best wines for our clients and maintain excellence in our business, we prioritize long-term relationships with both our winemakers and our clients. We focus on exclusive partnerships, acting as the sole importer and distributor in The Netherlands. This exclusivity is an important factor for many of our clients. We do not supply our wines to online (discount) channels, ensuring a controlled and premium positioning in the market. Our goal is to represent your wines throughout the country, placing them with the right clients and in the right context.
