Winemaker António Maçanita & James Frost

Background Quinta de Sant'Ana is just a 30-minute drive north of Lisbon. The winery is run by James Frost and António Maçanita, who produce organic wines on calcareous clay soil. António's original and sometimes daring approach results in wines that are both traditional and surprisingly innovative for Portugal. The vineyards are located close to the Atlantic Ocean, with cool mornings and warm afternoons.

Vineyards Organic and in conversion to biodynamic. Gently sloping, south-facing, with deep, fertile soils.

Harvest Manual

Vinification The grapes are hand-picked and gently pressed with a pneumatic press at 7 degrees. The Fernão Pires ripens cold in stainless steel, the Arinto in French oak. Both ferment with their own yeasts. After 6 months of aging, the wines are blended and bottled.
